Improvers Course

To join the Improvers course you must have completed the BENCHspace beginners course. It is an eight week programme designed to follow on from the learning of the Beginners Course to enhance and further your skills and techniques. People work at their own pace and therefore projects covered depend on individual progress.

This is run (TERM TIME ONLY) on Friday mornings and evenings from 10am-12.30pm, and 6.30pm-9pm, beginning on 13.01.2023 running until 10.03.2023

The Improvers course builds on the skills learnt in the Beginners course, and is learner led. You can choose from an array of projects, each graded according to the level of difficulty to continue building your skillset week on week. You may complete 4 projects or more during the eight week course and this is led by each individual student with tuition provided to guide and support your expanded growth as a maker/ designer.

Topics covered include; making bezel settings, setting cabochon stones in a rub over setting, riveting, making a variety of rings and measuring accurately, different types of soldering techniques, making chain, forging, doming and swaging, design skills as well as polishing and finishing. People work at their own pace and therefore projects covered depend on individual progress.

A list of essential tools is also provided if you wish to set up your own workbench at home and a list of trusted suppliers for all your jewellery making needs. After completing the Improvers course, you can can continue to learn on the next Improvers course as you challenge yourself in choosing more difficult projects, using the workshop tools and equipment and the support and guidance of your tutor.

All tools, tuition and refreshments included.  Silver, precious metals and gemstones are NOT included in the cost of the course and must be purchased by yourself. Please provide your own consumables (e.g. Saw blades, Drill bits, etcetera).

We also have the “BENCHspace Collective” where we get together to sell our jewellery at pop-up events and artists/ craft markets, this is a supportive way to start selling and promoting your work.
