Explore your love of colour in our introduction to enamelling class with expert tutor Sara Barker.
You will be introduced to the simple yet effective techniques of sieving and dry brushing coloured enamel powders onto copper and kiln firing.
You can create textures and patterns as you fire layers of enamel onto copper blanks. You will learn the foundation skills necessary to produce some samples to keep, as well as experiment with the materials.
Suitable for complete beginners and a great addition to metal clay and other jewellery making techniques.
You will make at least 4 pieces that can then be turned into necklaces, earrings, pendants or charms with the addition of jump rings, chains and metal findings.
Some copper sheet and all enamels are included in the course fee. Extra copper can be purchased on the day if required.

Explore the ancient art of enamelling in this new three hour workshop on our first date of Saturday 28th of May, or our second date of Saturday 30th of July 2022. At a cost of £65 it will be a fun introduction to this technique dating back to the 13th century BC. One of the earliest forms of adding colour to crafted metal jewellery. All tuition, tools, materials, and refreshments are included.
About your tutor: Sara Barker: I make silver and copper jewellery cut and shaped into elegant, contemporary designs and fired with vitreous enamels, creating rich, vibrant colours.
I have exhibited nationally and internationally since first graduating in Jewellery Design (BA Hons) in 1991, then gaining Distinction for Sculptural Practice (M.A.) in 2011.
As well as making my own work I have over 25 years experience of running workshops for various levels and age groups and I am also the Design-Craft coordinator at Colchester School of Art.
I live and make my work in Wivenhoe, Essex finding inspiration by the river estuary there.
