Explore and develop a love of  precious and semi-precious gemstones, in our introduction to making collet settings in this one day class with local goldsmith Marlies White.  In this one-day workshop we will be looking at how to make an elegant setting for a faceted stone, using a bezel/ collet block.

Collet blocks are really handy tools to make conical shaped settings in a variety of shapes.  We will be using round or oval collet blocks and the principle is the same for other shapes.

Marlies will teach you the basic techniques needed to shape a section of silver tube into a setting, soldering it onto the ring shank (you will have made) and the how to seat and set the stone.

NB : Materials are included to make one ring each, more can be purchased on the day if required.

As always a steady hand and good eyesight is essential, as you will be measuring for precision and accuracy in your work.

Please note: Masterclasses are designed for students who have completed our beginners course as it relies on the foundation skills of soldering and forming already being in place.  You do not need any prior setting experience however the fundamental skills of soldering, piercing and forming are a requirement.

This workshop is not suitable for absolute beginners.
