Explore and develop your love of gemstones, in our introduction to making bezel settings for fancy shaped stones in this class with local goldsmith Marlies White. She will be showing us how to create a bezel from scratch to create settings for square, marquise, pear or trillion shaped stones. A fancy shaped/ cut stone is one that is not round or oval.

You can either bring your own stone (approx 7/8 mm in size)- or purchase one of ours on the day -Amethyst, citrine, topaz, garnet or peridot (depending on availability).

NB : Materials are included to make one ring each, more can be purchased on the day if required.

As always a steady hand and good eyesight is essential, as you will be measuring for precision and accuracy in your work.

Please note: Masterclasses are designed for students who have completed our beginners course as it relies on the foundation skills of soldering and forming already being in place.  You do not need any prior setting experience however the fundamental skills of soldering, piercing and forming are a requirement.

This workshop is best suited to those with prior jewellery making experience with good soldering and forming skills, who would like a technical challenge and the opportunity to upskill from a talented goldsmith. 

This workshop is not suitable for absolute beginners.
