Learn the ancient techniques of sand-casting in this one day masterclass. One of the oldest metalsmithing techniques from the Bronze Age allows you to cast shapes from molten metal by pouring into ready prepared moulds made from sand. We will be showing you how to make two part moulds,  how to make a flat back mould (to reduce the volume of a larger object) as well as how to make multiples castings in one pour. For those who have done the previous class, we will also be placing gemstones into the mould to cast in place heat resistant stones, so that you don’t need to set the stones afterwards. This workshop is best suited to those with prior jewellery making experience who wish to further extend their skill set. Competent use of a gas torch and saw frame will be expected. You need to provide your own clean silver scrap / casting grain to use on the day. At least 30g+ will be needed but the amount largely depends on your own designs so please ensure you bring enough to work with on the day. It is best to have more than you need so that you don’t run out on the day. Only 8 spaces available on this full day session, 10am until 4pm.
