Explore and develop your love of precious and semi-precious gemstones, in our introduction to stone setting class with expert jeweller Marlies White. You will be introduced to the simple yet effective techniques of either tube /collet  or bezel setting a fancy shaped (any shape that is not round or oval) faceted stone and making a ring in your own size.

Please note all materials are included to make on stone set ring for tube and collet settings but NOT the fancy stone. This gemstone can be purchased from the workshop on the day or you can provide your own fancy shaped stone approx 8mm in size.

In this full-day workshop you will be learning how to make a setting for a round brilliant cut stone from silver tube as a tube set ring or using the collet blocks to create a graduated setting using tube.  You will then be shown how to create the seat for the stone to sit on and how to solder this onto the ring shank. Or you can choose to learn how to make a bezel setting for a fancy shaped stone (stone not included in workshop fee).

Once you have made the setting and the ring is assembled, you will be shown how to set the stone securely with traditional hand tools and techniques.

Please note : Masterclasses are designed for students who have completed our beginners course as it relies on the foundation skills of soldering and forming already being in place.

You do not need any prior setting experience however the fundamental skills of soldering, piercing and forming would be a requirement.

All tools, materials and tuition will be provided. Materials are included to make one ring each, more can be purchased on the day if required.

Tea and coffee making facilities are  available throughout the session, please provide your own lunch.
