Explore and develop your love of sparkly gemstones, in our introduction to flush setting in this full one day class with local goldsmith Marlies White.

Marlies will teach you techniques needed to set small faceted stones (Brilliant cuts) into the metal so that they are flush with the surface of your jewellery.  We will spend the morning practicing drilling and tapering a setting and learning the skills for good use of the flex shaft and practicing setting the stones in copper.  After lunch we will be flush setting stones in silver to further extend your skill set.

Everyone will be given a pack of drill bits/stone setting burrs to use on the day and take home afterwards and is included in the price of the class.  If you have your own flex shaft and would like to bring it to learn on your own motor please do, this will also cut down on having to share and wait times.

Previous experience of working in silver and using a flex shaft or micro motor is preferable but not essential. Please note that a good level of dexterity and good eyesight is required, as you will be measuring for precision and accuracy in your work.

Please note: Masterclasses are designed for students who have completed our beginners course as it relies on the foundation skills of soldering and forming already being in place.

This workshop is not suitable for absolute beginners.
